Happy 2026 Everyone,

The IRS has announced that they will be accepting returns as of Monday, January 26, 2026, though there are always forms that will not be ready until into February.   If you are required to file one of those forms, I can still receive your documentation and complete your return, but it will not be filed, nor will any refund be sent, until after all forms are finalized.

Attached is my 2025 Tax Preparation Checklist to help you gather the proper documents.  It’s attached as a .pdf as well, but that is not electronically fillable like the Word document.  In addition, please make sure you fill out your driver’s license information or include a copy (if you didn’t in previous years) to comply with IRS identity regulations.

There have been some changes from the One Big Beautiful Bill (OB3) that will affect most of your returns in 2025, and more things that will affect you in 2026 and beyond.  Please make sure that you look at the “New for 2025” section and answer those questions.  Because OB3was passed mid-year, many employers did not adjust forms like W-2s, 1099s, etc. for the new rules, and I would recommend including a copy of your last pay stub with your paperwork.  Please take a good look at the questionnaire and make sure you mark anything that applies because in this transition year there may be additional information I need to ask for.

I am offering multiple ways to pick up, meet, drop off, and pay for your return.  I can do in-person pickups, mail, secure file transfer, Zoom meeting to discuss your return, and Zelle or Venmo (@altobellicpa) for payment.  We can discuss individual arrangements when you have all your information together and are ready to have your return prepared.

Please notify me if you receive any correspondence from the IRS concerning form CP01A or have an identity theft protection PIN from the IRS.  The information on these documents may be needed to verify your identity with the IRS.

More and more information is becoming available by setting up an online account with the IRS.  If you are comfortable doing this, I highly recommend it.Visit https://www.irs.gov/payments/your-online-account and select Sign in your Online Account.  From there, follow the instructions to create an account.

Unfortunately, the rising costs of my software and continuing education for my license, for the first time in many years I am going to have to raise my rates. If you are an existing client, your return cost will go up by no more than $20.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me either by phone or email using the information at the top of the page.  I look forward to working with each of you this year. And, as always, referrals are welcome and appreciated, though my openings are limited.
